09-10 Salute to Youth Auditions

For the 2009-10 season, Utah Symphony will be holding both the preliminary and final auditions for Salute to Youth.  Preliminary auditions will be submitted on CD only. The finals for Salute to Youth auditions will be held Tuesday, August 18, 2009.   Rules, application and repertoire for the Salute to Youth auditions can be found here.

·          The September 29, 2009 Salute to Youth concert will mark the 50th anniversary of this great tradition.  The concert will feature 8 soloists performing concerto movements with Utah Symphony.  Click here for a list of former soloists.  Click here for a collection of some of their memories of their experiences as Salute to Youth soloists.  This concert is sponsored each year by the Deseret News. Click here for the list of 2009 soloists.

·           A soloist was also chosen at the Salute to Youth auditions to perform an entire concerto on our All-Star Evening, May 25, 2010.  This year's solist will be Caitlin Carmack, 17,  playing Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 2 in A Major.  The All-Star Evening also includes orchestral selections performed by students who have been nominated by 11 youth orchestras, sitting side-by-side with Utah Symphony musicians.

·          Occasionally we offer additional performance opportunities on our Lollipops, Family or school concerts.

Youth Guild Recital auditions are held each spring. Youth Guild members who have earned two service and two education credits are eligible to audition for the spring recital. Students selected to perform on the Youth Guild Recital are eligible to audition for the Salute to Youth concert. This year’s Utah Symphony Youth Guild Recital will be Wednesday, April 15th, 2009 at 7:00 pm. This free recital will be held in The Assembly Hall on Temple Square. Be sure to add this recital to your family’s calendar. The excitement generated by these young musicians (ages 10-18) will leave you inspired and smiling for days.
