A Concert for Children with Special Needs and their Families

Thursday, January 25, 2018 | 7 PM
Abravanel Hall
123 West South Temple

 Salt Lake City

Utah Symphony | Utah Opera offers an annual concert for children with special needs and their families. We present this concert because we know that many families cannot attend cultural events together because some special needs children may have difficulty keeping quiet in their seats. We feature the Utah Opera Resident Artists with the Utah Symphony on the Capitol Theater Stage for this special concert.

This concert is FREE but registration is required.
Children with special needs of ANY age are welcome to attend.

The doors of Capitol Theater will open at 6:30 PM, and the concert will begin at 7 PM. Seating is general admission.
After the concert, please join us for cookies in the lobby. (Unfortunatey, we cannot accommodate special allergies)

CLOSED

If you would like to be added to the email list to be notified about next year's concert, please email Ky Johnson at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Night for the Blind & Visually Impairedimg 5364

Wednesday, May 9, 2018 | 6 PM
Capitol Theater
50 West 200 South Salt Lake City

Visually-impaired guests are invited along with a driver/seeing companion to attend the Wednesday night dress rehearsal of Utah Opera’s production of Mozart's Don Giovanni. The event is free of charge.

At 6:00 PM, our Principal Coach and Director of Education & Outreach will talk about the opera, pass around prepared fabric samples of costumes, and share information about the set. Braille translations of the supertitles and large print copies of the synopsis are available, as well as headsets through which a play-by-play description of stage action is broadcast from our translator's booth.

This event is an annual collaboration between Utah Opera, the Moran Eye Center, and the Utah Council for the Blind. The Library for the Blind will have brailed supertitle scripts/libretti that can be picked up from the library. Call Jan Sonshine for this service 801-715-6789.

Finishing Touches Rehearsal for Alzheimer's Awareness Month

Wednesday, May 25, 2018 | 10 AM
Abravanel Hall
123 West South Temple Salt Lake City

Utah Symphony | Utah Opera and the Utah Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association collaborate for a ninth year  in presenting a variety of events for members of our community who are Alzheimer’s care recipients and their caregivers, both in USUO’s venues (attendance at a Finishing Touches) and in regional care centers. People with Alzheimer’s have memories that suffer, but their other senses may be totally intact, and listening to music can give them as much or more joy than it does USUO’s usual audience members.

Attendance at the Finishing Touches rehearsal on Wednesday May 25, is an opportunity for caregivers and care recipients to experience Rachmaninoff's Symphony No. 2. Tickets are available through the box office for this event.
