Education Events for Schools
Utah Symphony
5th Grade Docent Concerts: This special series is presented at Maurice Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City. All fifth grade classrooms within busing distance are invited to attend. In addition to receiving materials for teachers, hundreds of attending schools receive personal visits from Utah Symphony Guild Docents trained by Assistant Conductor David Cho and our Education Department to present core concepts and an introduction to orchestral music. Concerts are 45-50 minutes in duration.
School Concerts: We program a full orchestra and chamber orchestra (45 to 50 musicians) education program each year to allow us to travel great distances and play in schools with smaller auditoriums. Teachers receive materials that help them prepare students for their attendance as well as activity suggestions to help support their teaching of the music core curriculum.
Conductor Visits: On some occasions the conductor has met with band or orchestra students to talk with them, and occasionally rehearse with them. This year we implemented “Meet and Greet” sessions, in between performances, at which secondary band and orchestra students can chat informally with members of the Utah Symphony.
